The players, the season and the match in review. The Former Players Group is the oldest supporter group at the football club, comprising former players and club associates from across the decades. To be inducted into the Hall of Fame, a player must have been retired for two years. Arnold had endeavored to play on behind taking a mark and, in a crucial portion of play, Sutton was qualified to convert the release kick into a goal and donate the Dogs a 23point lead at the long break. Melbourne replied with two of their own through McLean and Johnson, but goals to Jack Collins and captain Charlie Sutton saw the Dogs' precede extend out to 38 points at the end change. Thousands of supporters descended onto the ground and carried the victorious Footscray players into the rooms. The rest they say is history as the Bulldogs went on to record a 18point victory.
